Only not a 5 due to one small (but important) omission – places to get motorbikes repaired incase of breakdown or a few numbers for breakdown recovery places. If on a bike, it is likely one will suffer a puncture at some point, it would be good to have a reference. Overall – highly recommended book and I for one shall be taking it with me later this year!

Its an interesting read but sections of the book seem to want to put you off going rather than encourage, there is a lot of you wont get accommodation or food if you don’t book months in advance which isn’t possible for some of us and if you can’t use a map you will get lost.

Unfortunately the popularity of the route means during the busy months of June, July & August it is very advisable book ahead with certain accommodation especially hotels. I’m very keen for people to be aware of the situation before travelling as it’s a long old way for most people in the UK and to arrive there without anywhere to stay wouldn’t be fun. Thanks again.

Your book was set out very well, nice and easy to read and lots of good suggestions of places to see on the way. We followed loads of them and really appreciated your advice. I don’t think we’d have found strathy beach unless you’d mentioned the car park next to the cemetery, and Castle sinclair would have also been one we’d have missed if we hadn’t had your book. All in all it was £15 well spent. I just wondered if you’ve put the wrong postcode in though for Corrieshallock gorge because it sent us back north when we left Ullapool, according to Google maps it should be IV23. We ended up going 15 mins in the wrong direction but got there in the end! We couldn’t find Wailing widow falls either, but maybe it would have been easier if I’d downloaded what 3 words. Found it a bit of a challenge sometimes due to lack of mobile signal, but the book and a map helped us get to most places, and it was absolutely epic.

I had already completed some research for my forthcoming holiday to Scotland before purchasing this book so hoped that this would complement what I had already done. Reviews were great so I went ahead and ordered. The book was useful to get basic overviews of some places Robbie visited on his travels but once on the route myself, I found it more useful to look at the NC500 map and the accompanying app. There are some sections in the book that are word for word, the same as the info I found in a Google search!
There were some frustrating things about the book, for example, the tips such as parking for the Big Burn walk and Puffin Cove were great if you had a little VW but we were in a motorhome and as such could not access as we were too large at just over 6m long so wasted some time. I don’t think the book really helped me a great deal although I did appreciate the tip re visiting Roggie Falls – fabulous!

Book is great, only one criticism, the book does not lay flat when open. Small thing I know but always having to hold the page open makes things more difficult when trying to take notes. Great info though thanks.

I am very impressed with this book. I haven’t read it all yet but having had a quick peek it is well presented and very good quality. It is packed with very useful information. We already had the map so this will be the perfect accompaniment.
