A road trip to Wales is better than ever! Let me explain why…

The introduction of new speed limits in Wales has caused a backlash with many unhappy about the changes. I totally appreciate and understand both sides of the argument and of course there are specific people who do genuinely suffer or benefit from these changes.

I’ve received 100’s of comments from those opposing the changes. Many comments have been completely inappropriate and a lot of them over-the-top, including…

‘TOURISM IN WALES IS DEAD’

‘DON’T BOTHER UNLESS YOU LIKE FUNERALS’

‘LIFE’S TOO SHORT TO GO TO WALES’

Now before I made up my own mind, I wanted to look into these speed limit changes to see if it would actually affect a 7 day long road trip in Wales. I’m coming at this from the point of view of a road trip lover with no political agenda what so ever.

After doing the new route calculations, I found that less than 6% of the entire 7 day trip actually passes through the new 20mph zones meaning that time spent driving increases by 9 minutes. That’s little over 1 minute of extra driving per day.

So if it’s true that ‘tourism in Wales is dead and nobody will visit Wales again’ – surely that means more space at campsites, cheaper hotel rooms, less cars & motorhomes on the road? All of which means that a road trip in Wales is now better than ever!

Wheal Coates, St Agnes Head - Cornwall 📍

As a proper Cornish landmark, St Agnes Head still has iconic mine buildings; reminders of the past when the mines Wheal Charlotte, Wheal Coates and Trevellas were still in production. The coast has the last remnants of the heathland which once covered most of Cornwall.

The Wheal Coates mine should be explored, it makes for an incredible photo and perfect sunset spot! Use the dedicated car park for Wheal Coates if you don’t fancy too much walking. 🌅

At foot of the Black Cuillins near Glenbrittle are the Fairy Pools, beautifully crystal clear blue pools on the River Brittle. 💧

These famous pools entice visitors from all over the world, as they make some great ‘Wild Swimming’ for those brave enough to enter the cold water. 🏊‍♀️

No trip to The Isle of Skye would be complete without a visit here. The walk is achievable by anyone regardless of fitness but there are a few uphill stretches so please take your time and enjoy the scenery! ⛰️

The UK’s often overlooked as a destination for holidays, road trips and getaways, but scratch beneath the surface and you’ll find some magical places…

This is Burgh Island located off the coast of South Devon. 🏝️ It can be found just 250m away from Bigbury-on-Sea which is home to a wide sandy beach with shallow waters, ideal for paddling and rock pool exploring. It is also a great spot for windsurfing and kite surfing as well as water sports – you can sign up to surf lessons or hire boards and kayaks on the beach. It has everything you need for a family day out with a shop and café located just behind.

You can walk over to Burgh Island at low tide and enjoy a pint at The Pilchard Inn (which dates back to the 14th century), stay at the Burgh Island hotel or take in the epic Devon sea views. 🌊

What about getting to and from the island at high tide? Well it looks like you’ll have to take the sea tractor 🚜

I cannot wait for this trip! 🌍

In just over 7 weeks we'll be heading back to The Philippines, my favourite country in South East Asia 🤩 This will be the first time we re-visit the country after our first major backpacking trip in 2019!

I don't think I've ever told anyone but The Philippines was the first destination I began writing a travel guide for back in 2020. At that point, writing was merely a hobby and something I never expected to come to light! Fast forward 4 years and things certainly have progressed...

Now I know that the Philippines may seem like a far flung destination that you've never really considered as a holiday destination, BUT, I'm hopefully going to show you how easy it is to reach, how affordable it is when you're there and what a magical experience you'll have on your own trip! ✨

Name one place that you visited this year that surprised you...🤯

For me, it was Northern Ireland! 🤩 Other than the well known attractions such as Giant's Causeway & Carrick-a-Rede, I really didn't know what to expect. In the end I completed an epic journey on the Causeway Coastal Route which was easily one of the best road trips I've been on! 🚐

Because I knew little about it and the fact I had almost every must see location to myself, it turned out to be magical. Northern Ireland is home to several genuinely spectacular locations including epic waterfalls, stunning beaches, picturesque villages, mighty castles and some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet.

Neist Point Lighthouse 💡 Isle of Skye 📍

YES I KNOW this is one of the most snapped places on the Isle of Skye, YES I KNOW it's usually ridiculously busy here, but come on, just look at how naturally beautiful this place is. Neist Point Lighthouse is just one of those places I'll never get bored of visiting. I have some really fond memories of the place. ☺️

If you visit any gift shop in Skye, you’ll see this place on a lot of postcards. You can get fantastic panoramic views from the nearby cliffs (head to the right hand side and mind the boggy areas). Alternatively you can walk all the way down the lighthouse. While the walk down is an easy one, the concrete path does get quite steep at times so please take care. A return walk will take you around 45-50 minutes.

Dunquin Pier 🌊 County Kerry 📍

One of Kerry’s most recognisable coastal landmarks! Photos of Dunquin Pier and its unique seascape are plastered over Ireland travel guides, blogs and postcards. I couldn't wait to get the camera out here! The first thing to note is the cliff edge here is unmarked, unguarded and the ground is uneven – so please take extreme care!

From the top of the cliffside you can admire this incredible spot and its natural landscape, including the rocky peaks that jut out from the water. Make your way down the unique, winding walkway to access the secluded bay and pier, which serves as a departure point for one of the Blasket Island ferry tours (ensure its on foot, we’ve seen a few too many photos of rental cars stuck on the pier walkway).

I had zero chance of flying my drone here, the wind was ferocious! There’s a small amount of parking next to the ferry ticket booth. 💨
