Wales Top 10 Campsites - My Personal Favourites.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve visited Wales, it’s just one of those places I love going back to time and time again. Before every road trip as you can probably guess, I thoroughly research the best campsites to stay at. Now I have to say with some of the UK’s best scenery to admire, you’ll be spoilt for choice when finding the perfect spot to pitch up a tent. Â
So to make your life easier, I’ve narrowed down the top 10 campsites in Wales all of which can be found in my Wales Road Trip guide. From coastal spots overlooking sandy bays and blue waters, to countryside pitch-ups in heart of the luscious green countryside, these campsites are destination in themselves.
If you’re planning a lengthy road trip you may want to pick out of few of these Wales campsites for their close proximity to must-see locations, or simply just for the breathtaking views. So here goes…
1. Llyn Gwynant Campsite, Snowdonia
If you’re looking for the perfect base camp for your Snowdon adventure, Llyn Gwynant Campsite is the spot. Situated right on the shores of Llyn Gwynant lake, this place is a peaceful sanctuary for outdoor adventurers. It offers direct access to some of the best hiking trails, wild swimming spots, and even kayaking. This place is all about being at one with nature. Waking up to those mountain and lake views is unbeatable in my opinion. This is really an ideal camping spot for anyone exploring Snowdonia.
2. Shell Island, Gwynedd
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve camped at Shell Island, and honestly, it never gets old. As one of the largest campsites in Europe, it offers a true wild camping experience across 300 acres of unspoiled coastal beauty. It’s easily one of my personal favourites.
Located near Harlech, this spot is perfect if you love a sense of total freedom. You can pitch up right by the beach, fall asleep to the sound of the waves, and wake up to some of the most breathtaking coastal views in Wales. While there are modern amenities like shower blocks, a shop, and even a pub, the real highlight is just how much wide-open space there is!

3. Three Cliffs Bay, The Gower
Three Cliffs Bay is one of those places that completely takes your breath away (no matter how many times you visit). Perched on the dramatic cliffs of the Gower Peninsula, this campsite has some of the best coastal views in Wales. Every time I’ve stayed here, waking up to that sweeping view of Three Cliffs Bay has been unforgettable.
With direct access to the golden sands, it’s perfect for chilled beach days, coastal walks, and exploring the Wales Coast Path. The site itself has everything you need from hot showers, a shop, and even a café. But the real standout has to be the incredible location, with views this good, you really don’t need much else.
4. Lleithyr Farm, Pembrokeshire
Lleithyr Farm is a great spot if you’re after a peaceful campsite with easy access to Whitesands Bay. I’ve stayed here a few times, and it always delivers. It has spacious pitches, a well-stocked farm shop, and a relaxed atmosphere.
It’s a family-friendly site, and the small farm adds a nice touch, especially if you’re travelling with kids. Being so close to St Davids and the coast, it’s an ideal base for exploring Pembrokeshire. After a day of walking the coastal paths or relaxing on the beach, it’s a quiet, comfortable place to settle in for the night. During peak season they also host pizza evenings every Sunday and Wednesday, so it’s a winner if you ask me.

5. Porth Iago, Llyn Peninsula
Porth Iago is hands down a top coastal campsite in Wales. I’ve stayed here a few times, and every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. The golden sandy beach is just a short stroll from your pitch, and you’ll never get bored of waking up to those views!
Don’t get me wrong It’s a simple, no-frills site, but it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. If you’re into wild swimming, hikes, or just want a quiet beach escape, this place is great for a stop-over. Sunsets here are something else too – well worth settling in for the evening to make the most of them.
6. Llyn Rhys Campsite, Wrexham
A 15-minute drive away from Llangollen and the UNESCO-listed Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Llyn Rhys Campsite is set on a family-run farm in Llandegla. I’ve honestly fallen in love with this place. Tucked away on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, it overlooks a quiet lake surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery. The setting is peaceful and serene, and it’s the kind of place where you can truly disconnect.
Out on the water, you can try kayaking and paddleboarding, before winding down for the evening. The owners are incredibly friendly, and the campsite has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Honestly, if you’re looking for a peaceful spot to recharge, give this one a try!

7. Awelfryn Campsite, Anglesey
Despite staying at many campsites when visiting Wales, there’s something really special about Awelfryn Campsite. It’s a small, peaceful site near the Brecon Beacons, and you can’t help but feel completely relaxed the moment you arrive. The surrounding hills and fields make it feel like you’re in your own little world. If you love hiking or mountain biking, this is a great base, with trails right on your doorstep.
8. Brecon Beacons Caravan & Camping Park
If you want to experience the magic of the Brecon Beacons, this campsite should definitely be on your list. It’s perfectly located, so you’ve got direct access to all the amazing hikes, including the famous Pen y Fan. The site itself is family-friendly and well-maintained, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. I’ve spent so many days here just exploring the area, and there’s always something new to see, whether it’s a hidden waterfall or a quaint village. After a day of hiking, I love just sitting at the campsite, enjoying the incredible views of the Beacons as the sun sets.

9. Dinas Farm Site, Bangor
If you’re into outdoor adventures, Dinas Farm Site is a must. It’s a little tucked away situated on the banks of the River Ogwen. You get this wonderful feeling of seclusion, but you’re never far from picturesque views and great walking trails.
The campsite itself is peaceful, with loads of space for camping, and also has great facilities. The owners are so welcoming, and there’s something about the community feel that really makes you want to come back. There’s also tonnes of outdoor activities you can do nearby, including fishing, mountaineering and cycling. Also, if you’re an adrenaline junkie Zip World is only 8 minutes away!
10. TÅ· Gwyn Caravan and Camping Park, Ceredigion
Tŷ Gwyn Caravan and Camping Park is a lovely little family-run site on a working farm in Ceredigion, West Wales. It’s just a short stroll to Mwnt Beach and feels like a secret paradise. The best part? The campsite overlooks Cardigan Bay, so you’ve got a pretty good chance of spotting dolphins and seals without even leaving your pitch. Not a bad view to wake up to!

That’s a wrap on my top picks for Wales campsites! Whether you’re after a scenic escape or a well-equipped stopover, planning ahead and booking early is definitely worth it.
